UK authorities criticised for reviewing plan to pay farmers for environmental safety
One of Liz Truss’s favorite rightwing thinktanks has criticised the federal government for contemplating ditching a much-vaunted new funding construction for farmers, calling the present subsidy system “a massive transfer of wealth from taxpayers to landowners”.
Truss has introduced plans to review the environmental land management scheme (Elms), the place farmers can be paid for environmental safety, so as, probably, to return to largely area-based funds. The plans have been criticised as being “deeply economically inefficient” and for encouraging “laziness” by the Institute of Economic Affairs.
