England keep Ashes hopes alive after Woakes earns tense win over Australia

Third Test, day four: Australia 263 & 224; England 237 & 254-7England win third Test by three wickets after chasing down 251

England cut their Ashes deficit to 2-1 with a nail-biting three-wicket win against Australia as they chased down a target of 251 on day four at Headingley. Chris Woakes and Mark Wood hauled England over the line, scoring 32 and 16 respectively. Before that, Harry Brook made a vital 75, while Mitchell Starc took five wickets for the visitors. The result keeps the series alive before the fourth Test at Old Trafford.

England lost Ben Duckett inside the opening half-hour after a 42-run opening stand with Zak Crawley. The openers added 15 to their overnight 27 before Duckett was pinned lbw for 23 by Starc. But instead of Brook striding to the crease at No 3 as in the first innings, out came Moeen Ali to partner Crawley in a switch of the order. Moeen added just five to the score before playing down the wrong line and having his leg stump uprooted by a 90mph delivery from Starc.
