Istanbul explosion leaves people dead and injured, official says

Video shows people fleeing after flames and a loud bang on popular İstiklal Avenue in Turkish city

An explosion on Istanbul’s popular pedestrian İstiklal Avenue has left at least four people dead and others injured, a senior official has said.

The Istanbul governor, Ali Yerlikaya, tweeted that the explosion occurred at about 4.20pm local time (1320 GMT) on Sunday, later adding that four people had died and 38 were injured. The cause of the explosion was not clear.
