Wales announces discovery of its first monkeypox case

Director of health protection says they are ready to respond but that overall risk to general public is low

Public Health Wales has confirmed the first case of monkeypox in the country.

Director of health protection, Dr Giri Shankar, said: “We are working with the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), Public Health Scotland, and Public Health Agency Northern Ireland, and we are ready to respond to cases of monkeypox in Wales.
